about

obituaries, personal ads, basketball magazines from the mid- 90s, poor social skills, obsessive interest in music (recorded, notated, performed) since early childhood, lost californians, blind men with guitars and dry delirious voices, spiritual poverty, maritime disaster, new york poets, car accidents, nose-bleeds, hans holbein the younger, profound loneliness, milkshakes, the library, periodic visits to strange wonderful places, long drives on two-lane country roads at dawn, various indulgences and deprivations.

grew up in and around berthoud, colorado, a place seemingly taylor made for locking oneself in a basement or garage, alone or with some friends, some instruments, a couple microphones, and wiling away every last teenage moment.

began in notebooks, scribbled desperately wildly, often in transit.
spread out onto dozens of cassette tapes, recorded on the cheap using anything from wobbly dictaphones to glorious tascam 4-tracks.
occasionally compiled into one-off mixes sent to one or two friends.
after several years Ian decided to share his work with the world in the form a seven-song cdr ep. he made about 150 cdrs and mailed them out to every college/freeform radiostation he could imagine being interested. Encouraged by the response of a couple of stations, including kxlu in los angeles, he formed the band in early-mid 2007 with a couple of friends (Cale on drums, Zack on bass).
